The recent events of the Corona virus are cause for feeling anxious. In the midst of that we are grateful for the opportunity farm labor offers for time together. We’ve had many chances to process this unprecedented and rapidly changing global crisis with our children. The timing of the school closures and this week’s sunny days also facilitated a jump start to our market garden. With the entire family home together, we have never been this early with our garden beds. Many hands make fast work.

Blue ribbon turnip just kept growing!
After the worry of contagion and the stress of such rapid changes, we were almost giddy with the joy of the outdoors and the fun projects of renewing our market garden as winter ended and spring warmth and growth showed a cheery face. First came the clearing of the garden, uncovering much growth, large and small. Next, we moved the drip line, a job that requires multiple workers
Then came the readying of the garden beds to prepare for planting. We bought a new EarthWay seeder this year and have enjoyed the ease and speed of planting, as well as the novel experience of everyone vying for a chance to be the one chosen to seed the carrot beds!
